GEO-BLOCKING IN THE DIGITAL SINGLE MARKET

What is the economic impact of geo-blocking?

A conference organised by Bruegel, the European think tank that specialises in economics.

The event will focus on whether we should extend the Commission’s proposal to non-audiovisual copyrighted services such as online music and ebooks. Bertin Martens will present his recent research work on the impact of removing geo-blocking restrictions on consumers and producers. His presentation will be followed by a panel discussion about whether, and under what conditions, we should remove geo-blocking practices from such sectors.

Moreover, it will deal with geo-blocking measures in the audiovisual sector. Scott Marcus will present the Bruegel study on extending the scope of geo-blocking prohibition in the industry while experts will comment on the associated arguments that go for or against such an extension.
