International IP Enforcement Summit 2017

The summit will address the growing impact of intellectual property rights infringement in our society and the challenges facing enforcement authorities.

The programme:

The 2017 programme is organised into three main panel discussions:

  • Panel I. Current online trends and challenges: This panel will look at the evolution of the approach to IP enforcement: from targeting individual consumers to the so-called ‘follow the money approach’ (which aims to reach large-scale commercial organisations) or to learning from consumer trends. The panel will hold three sessions, each dealing with a different approach to enforcement: awareness and education, tools and strategies, and the impact of technology in business models.
  • Panel II. Looking ahead: The second panel will present new ways to reconcile the interests of consumers with those of IP rights holders. In this panel, enforcers will share their experiences of dealing with organised crime. Other topics of discussion will include new technologies, to ensure the legitimate dissemination of content and distribution of goods, new ways of payment and remuneration methods for online transactions of IP-protected goods.
  • Panel III. International cooperation: The summit will close with interventions by high-level representatives from ministries and international organisations, who will share their experiences of international IPR enforcement from an institutional point of view. The speakers will also address the need for better international cooperation and the sharing of operational best practices, both in policy making and enforcement.
