9 May: Europe Day

Europe day

"Europe will not be made all at once, or according to a single plan. It will be built through concrete achievements which first create a de facto solidarity." Robert Schuman

Europe Day, celebrated on 9 May, is the occasion for events to draw Europe near to its citizens.

On 9 May 1950, Robert Schuman, one of the founder fathers of the EU, made the initial appeal for the construction of Europe, starting from the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) joined by France, West Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. This was the first step toward the European Union of 28 countries that we know today.

Since 1986, on this day local offices of the European Commission and the European Parliament in the EU, as well as delegations abroad organise a variety of activities and events for all ages. Find out all the Europe Day activities across the EU.

Consumer Champion is a European Commission funded project. This is why we are particularly proud to celebrate this day. Thanks to the EU we are able to deliver empowering resources for consumer professionals and everyone who is interested in learning about consumer law and more.

We provide e-learning courses also on more specific topics such as energy, telecommunications, digital and financial services. Have a look at this page to discover how EU law is protecting you now.
