On February 6th 2017, the EU Health Award ceremony was hosted by the University of Leuven in Belgium, in presence of EU Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation Carlos Moedas and EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Vytenis Andriukaitis. Mr Andriukaitis clearly addressed the AMR threat in his speech: “The situation is now critical. Human and animal health is under threat, as well as sustainable food production and development. In 2011, the European Commission launched a 5-year Action Plan in response to the need for co-ordinated action against the rising threats from AMR. The EU Health Award reflects the interest in tackling this issue and encouraging EU NGOs like BEUC in fighting even more to protect EU citizens’ life.
