Consumers International has just announced that 25 of its members in developing and transitional economies will receive a grant of £2,000 each to implement this year’s Green Action Fund campaigns.
The Green Action Fund 2017
The Green Action Fund is the funding element of Green Action Week, an annual global campaign running 1-9 October, to promote sustainable consumption.
This year, 25 campaigns will take place in 21 countries across five continents. The winners - nine from Africa, nine from Asia Pacific, four from Latin America, two from Europe and one from the Middle East – will be tackling issues ranging from the impact of pesticides on domestic rice production to finding space for organic farming in urban areas.
The 2017 theme is ‘Safer, More Sustainable Food for All’. Consumers International will provide the winners with materials, research, policy support, and joint-campaign communications. Projects funded promote consumer awareness and demand for food produced using farming methods that exclude chemical pesticides, such as organic farming.
Over the past few years, a number of successful campaigns have taken place raising awareness on a range of issues, including: sustainable fishing, energy-saving devices, recycling, green consumption, chemical run-off, sustainable transportation, and many more.
