The winner of the Citizenergy Project of the Year award

On 1 February, the winner of the 2016 Citizenergy Project of the Year award was announced during the event "The engagement of Citizens in Sustainable Energy. Sharing successful experiences across Europe".

The gathering was hosted by MEP Dario Tamburrano of Italy and organized by the Active Citizenship Network and gave floor to the policy recommendations  arising from the experience of launching Citizenergy, as well as other concrete examples from cooperatives and crowdfunding platforms working to help finance the energy transition. Representatives of the European Commission and DG Energy shared their views on the current trends supporting a flexible, decentralised and renewable Energy.

The Citizenergy Project

Citizenergy - European Citizens for Renewables is a European project funded by the Intelligent Energy Europe Program that aims to create an EU-wide platform for citizens’ participation in renewable energy projects. This project brings together the worlds of renewable energy crowdfunding and renewable energy cooperatives for the first time in a single platform for citizens all over Europe. Over 28 crowdfunding platforms and energy cooperatives from 13 European countries now feature their project on Citizenergy.

The winner

Ecrowd! and the Mar de Fulles project took home 79% of some 430 votes cast in December 2016. 

ECrowd! is the online crowdlending marketplace for meaningful investments in Spain. Our team consists of business and financial experts, engineers, and programmers, all with a wealth of experience in their respective sectors.

Mar de Fulles is a brand-new ecotourism concept, which describes itself as a Sustainable Eco-Management Network, consisting of a bioclimatic touristic complex located next to the nature park of Sierra de Espadán (Castellón, Spain) and a wild bird special protection area. It brings together ecology, sustainability, and energy efficiency in a pioneering way in Spain. The Mar de Fulles complex will support all its electricity requirements through photovoltaic panels with support batteries. This was the precisely the objective of the crowdfunding.
